Symptoms of inflammation of the heart valve Inflammation of the heart valves is part of what is known as endocarditis: which represents the inner layer lining the chambers and valves of the heart, and the symptoms accompanying this condition can be detailed as follows.


Common symptoms of valvulitis include:

  • Tired.
  • flu-like symptoms; like a fever.
  • shortness of breath.
  • Sweating at night.
  • A new sound appears when the heart murmurs or the heartbeat changes.
  • Pain in the joints and muscles. Chest pain when breathing. Swelling of the feet, legs, or abdomen.
  • The appearance of red or purple spots under the skin in the fingers or toes, and it may be noticed that spots appear on the white area of the eyes, in the cheeks, on the chest, and in the roof of the mouth
  • Blood in the urine, weight loss, and an enlarged spleen.


Causes of valvulitis include:

  1. Congenital heart defect.
  2. Heart valve defect or damage.
  3. A previous infection of the heart valve.
  4. New valve replacement surgery.
  5. Intravenous drug addiction.
  6. Dental or gum problems.
  7. Undergoing surgeries that may allow bacteria to enter the body, whether through the digestive, respiratory, urinary, or other tracts.
  8. Sexually transmitted diseases .
  9. Inflammatory bowel disease.
